Beware of Verizilla!

Two new videos document the dangers of an approaching wireless-cable monster known in some circles as “Verizilla.”

This monster would rise out of a toxic deal between Verizon and a cable cabal of Comcast, Cox and Time Warner Cable. The group wants to divvy up the wireless Internet market and get rid of any meaningful competition among the companies involved.

Washington is scrutinizing the deal — last week the Senate Antitrust Subcommittee held a hearing on it — and the public outcry against it is getting louder by the day.

This week, two unions put out videos pushing back on the deal.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) explained how the deal would erase broadband competition and raise prices for consumers:

And the Communications Workers of America (CWA) put out its own video expressing its opposition and introducing the world to Verizilla, a terrifying, competition-squashing mutant destroying cities across the country. You can view the video at StoptheCap, the broadband news website.

Meanwhile, we must keep the pressure on Washington to reject this deal outright. Go here to watch Senate testimony from Free Press Policy Adviser Joel Kelsey and to help take down Verizilla.
