News for All the People Book Tour Launch

Here at Free Press we're celebrating the release of our colleague Joseph Torres' new book, News for All the People: The Epic Story of Race and the American Media. This October the authors are taking their book on the road on a national tour that includes stops in New York, California, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Washington, D.C.

Co-authored with Juan González, an award-winning journalist and co-host of Democracy Now!, News for All the People puts race at the center of the story of American media. Looking at everything from the first colonial newspaper to today's Internet era, the book explores how people of color have fought for fair and just treatment from the mainstream media. The authors show how Black, Latino, Asian and Native American journalists created their own thriving alternative press — and ultimately forced open the doors of major media companies.

Last April Joseph and Juan gave us a sneak peek at the book when they spoke at Free Press' National Conference for Media Reform in Boston. You can check out audio and video of that appearance here.

Joseph and Juan might be visiting a city near you, so be sure to mark your calendar with the dates. A full list of appearances follows below.
