I Love the Smell of Internet Freedom in the Morning

Wow, Internet freedom is delicious.

At least that’s how some Free Pressers felt when we conducted a little photo shoot to help kick off the Summer of Internet Freedom.

We figured we’ve been helping activists around the world organize their own Internet freedom events, so why not join in the fun?

People are already coming up with a bunch of creative events like:

  • A translate-a-thon to get as many translations of the Declaration online as possible
  • A “series of tubes” tubing excursion
  • An art show for Internet freedom
  • BBQs, of course

What’s yours going to be?

When talking to potential event hosts, we’ve tried to make one thing clear: It’s EASY to set up an Internet freedom event. Here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Figure out the next time you want to have drinks or dinner with a group of friends. Call it an “Internet freedom event.”
  2. Sign up to create that event and invite others to join you.
  3. Print out a copy of the Declaration of Internet Freedom. Bring it to your event.
  4. Have drinks and/or food. Talk about what Internet freedom means to you.
  5. Take a picture with the Declaration or the Internet freedom eagle. Send it to us and post it online. Done!

Need some inspiration? Here’s a pic of some of us reading through the Declaration (that’s me in the apron):
