CISPA Vote This Afternoon

Congress could vote on CISPA as early as this afternoon. That means we have only a few hours to call our representatives and demand a “NO” vote on this privacy-killing bill. Go here to call your representative and stop CISPA.

Opposition to CISPA has reached a fever pitch. Just yesterday, the White House — as it did last year — threatened to veto the bill, writing that CISPA in its current form “does not require private entities to take reasonable steps to remove irrelevant personal information when sending cybersecurity data to the government or other private sector entities.”

Meanwhile, in a Congressional hearing, CISPA co-sponsor Rep. Mike Rogers compared opponents of the bill to a “14-year-old tweeter in the basement.” That comment didn’t sit well with civil liberties and Internet freedom advocates. Security technology firm owner Robert David Graham tweeted, “Hey @RepMikeRogers, I’m a 40 year old famous cybersecurity expert, and I oppose CISPA. It doesn’t stop hackers, but it threatens citizens.” (Our friends at the Electronic Frontier Foundation compiled a list of other good responses.)

Despite the building momentum against CISPA, we still have work to do to kill this bill for good. So if you haven’t already done so, pick up the phone now, call your representative and demand a “NO” vote on CISPA.
