Amazing! On Thursday, Free Press led a coalition of organizations — including the ACLU, Avaaz, ColorOfChange, Common Cause, CREDO, DailyKos, Demand Progress, Fight for the Future, the Harry Potter Alliance, MoveOn, Presente.org, RootsAction and the Sierra Club's SierraRise Community — that delivered more than 1 million petitions to the Federal Communications Commission urging the agency to restore Net Neutrality.



That’s right. Just two weeks after a federal court threw out the FCC’s Net Neutrality rules, effectively killing the open Internet (for now), we delivered petitions from more than 1 million people who support the freedom to connect and communicate online. We’re calling on the FCC to reclassify broadband connections as “telecommunications services,” a simple move that would allow it to pass robust Net Neutrality rules that would actually hold up in court (check out our primer on reclassification for more).

We also delivered a letter from more than 85 diverse organizations and companies — including the ACLU, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, CREDO Mobile, the PEN American Center, Presente.org, reddit, ThoughtWorks, the Women’s Media Center, and the Writers Guilds of America East and West — that are echoing this call to the FCC.

We hope FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler is paying attention to our message. The fact is, Net Neutrality is the reason all of these petitions even exist. Without Net Neutrality, the Internet as we know it could be a relic of the past. We urge Chairman Wheeler to do the right thing and save the Internet for good.
