Nov. 6 Vigils to Save Net Neutrality

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler is still fumbling around in the dark.

While his original disastrous proposal for the Internet is dead, a new approach he's considering would still leave us stranded in the slow lane.

And President Obama, who appointed Wheeler, is also in the dark about what it takes to protect the open Internet. The new “hybrid” proposal the FCC is contemplating is a convoluted, half-baked plan that extends protections to big companies — but not to ordinary Internet users like you and me. It’s also likely to fail in court, like every other scheme the FCC has tried.

The only way out of this mess is to reclassify users’ Internet access as a telecommunications service under Title II.

Now we need your help to make it clear to both the president and the FCC that we won’t accept any fake Net Neutrality proposals like this one.

The plan: On the evening of Nov. 6, we’ll hold up our phones, candles and flashlights to shine light on the shameful new plan that fails to protect our rights online.

In Hungary, thousands of people just beat back a tax on Internet data when they held their glowing cellphones up in the air during massive nighttime protests (pictured). We can expose Wheeler’s fake version of Net Neutrality by doing the same.

This Thursday, our friends at Fight for the Future, Media Mobilizing Project, Popular Resistance and other great organizations are holding vigils in front of the White House and at 13 other locations around the country. Are you in?
