Need Motivation for 2014?
Free Press set out to raise $30,000 by year’s end.
Thanks to you, we blew through that goal and raised more than $41,000. We can’t say it enough: Thank you!
We’re starting 2014 stronger and ready to take on any media giant or member of government that threatens your rights to connect and communicate.
It won’t be easy. But we’ve got three simple mantras to keep you motivated for what lies ahead:
1. Save the Internet.
Any day now a federal court could strike down the only protections we have against companies that want to block what we do and say online. No matter what happens, we’ll fight to protect the open Internet.
2. Crush Consolidation.
In 2013, we saw the biggest wave of media consolidation EVER. In 2014, we’re going to work harder than ever to protect local journalism.
3. Don’t Let Anyone Mess with Your Rights to Connect and Communicate.
Flipping the balance of power to put the public’s needs before corporate interests is no easy task — but someone’s got to do it. And with amazing activists like you by our side, we know we can fight back — and win.
If you’re ready for another powerful year of change, join us via the livestream on Jan. 9 for #OaklandVoices: A Town Hall on Our Right to Communicate. This special event in Oakland, Calif., marks the first time new Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler will meet with the public about the impact of media policies on vulnerable communities.
Tune into the livestream on Thurs., Jan. 9, from 7–9 p.m. PST.
